Discover the Mitchell Plateau on
this overnight adventure from
Kununurra. Departing early we join
our scenic flight for a full day
discovering Aboriginal rock art,
native vegetation and the thunderous
Mitchell Falls.
Day 1:
Mitchell Plateau
After an early morning hotel
pick-up, we depart Kununurra by
light aircraft at approximately 6.00
a.m. Our scenic flight lands on
remote Mitchell Plateau and we are
transferred to the comfortable
Ungolan Wilderness Camp for
breakfast. The adventure continues
with a local guide sharing knowledge
and fascinating stories of the
region as we explore. Walk to Little
Merten Falls then continue through
woodland to inspect ancient and
rarely-viewed Aboriginal Gwion
(Bradshaw) paintings. Take in the
views on the way to Big Merten
Falls. The incredible spectacle of
Mitchell Falls is created by the
Mitchell River flowing over the
massive plateau into the deep pools
below. Enjoy a swim above the falls,
and after lunch you have a number of
options: hike out of the falls or
choose to take an optional
helicopter flight over Mitchell
Falls or a longer scenic flight
along the Kimberley coast (own
expense).
Stay: Mitchell Plateau, Ungolan
Wilderness Camp, our exclusive
permanent fully-hosted
accommodation. Canvas tents, beds
with crisp linen and towel provided.
