Lightweight Bushwalking & Day Walks
from Base Camp
This is a gentle walking expedition
taking you into the heart of
Tasmania’s World Heritage Area. We
carry light weight backpacks into
our base camp and explore the
central area of the Cradle Mountain
– Lake St. Clair National Park with
a series of day walks. This is a
five day wilderness experience of a
lifetime in the heart of Tasmania’s
premier National Park.
Day 1:
Launceston to
Cradle
Mountain Lake St Clair National Park
We transfer from Launceston to the
trail head that will take us into
the heart of the Cradle Mountain
Lake St. Clair National Park. The
track begins with a steep climb
before hitting easier walking
through open valleys. The trail
takes us across buttongrass plains
and myrtle rainforest to our
destination beside the Douglas
River. We set up a comfortable base
camp and call this spot home for the
next 3 nights.
Day 2:
Day Walk
Mt. Ossa (1617m) Tasmania’s highest
mountain beckons to be climbed
today. We leave camp, carrying just
our day packs and head through the
Pelion area towards Mt. Ossa.
Weather permitting we summit Mt.
Ossa and enjoy the incredible views
spanning across two-thirds of the
state. For the eager the option is
available to climb Mt. Peilon East
in the afternoon before returning
back to our camp.
Day 3:
Cradle to Walls of Jerusalem
The walking opportunities are
bountiful from our well located camp
so today we have the option of
climbing another mountain peak or
enjoying a meander into the Forth
Valley. The Forth Valley and the
Lemonthyme forest are nestled at the
base of the recognizable slopes of
Mt. Oakleigh.
Day 4:
Day Walk
Today we are presented with similar
opportunities as yesterday. With so
many choices of walking options, we
may decide to climb Pelion West a
challenging but well rewarded walk.
Or perhaps explore further afield
across open plains and rainforests.
Day 5:
Cradle
Mountain Lake St Clair National Park
to Launceston
Today we pack up camp and make a
leisurely departure returning along
the same route as our inward journey
into the park. We will be met at the
trail head by our awaiting bus and
return back to Launceston arriving
mid afternoon. |
