2
days/1 night - Adelaide, Coober Pedy,
Head of Bight & Ceduna
During the Australian winter months,
up to 100 Southern Right Whales gather
at the Head of Bight to calve and to
breed. Travelers can watch from
platforms built along the cliffs at Head
of Bight as the whales slap tails or
leap out of the water.
Day 1:
Depart Adelaide for Coober Pedy. Coober
Pedy is a town of 4000 people world
famous for its opal mining. Summer heat
means that most of the residents live
underground. Spend the afternoon on a
tour of the town, which will include a
visit down an opal mine, to an
underground church and an underground
home, looking for gems, shopping for
opals. All set against the backdrop of
some of the harshest environments in
Australia.
Day 2: Depart Coober Pedy by light aircraft to
enjoy scenic views of the rugged Outback
landscape on the way to the Nullarbor
Hotel/Motel.
Fly over the whales before landing to
join a private 4WD tour down to the
whale-watching platforms to get a closer
look at the whales and the unforgettable
Nullarbor Cliffs.
Depart from Nullarbor to fly along the
Far West Coast of South Australia on the
way back to Adelaide.
Scenery will include farming properties,
coastal scenery including Fowlers Bay
and the Illcumba Dunes. (B,L)
