White Cliffs Opal Field will bring
home to you the remoteness and
isolation of the early Australian
pioneers. Mining still continues
here but on a much smaller scale
than during the first 20 years after
opals were discovered in 1887.
Here in White Cliffs you will have
the opportunity to learn how this
unique community lives in their
underground houses. We'll go "fossicking"
in the 'Old Field' where over 50,000
holes have been dug since mining
began, and of course visit a local
opal show room or two.
Today Silverton has a population of
less than 50 and is home to some
very recognised artists. The
Silverton hotel is a major draw
card; a typical outback pub that has
been the focus of hundreds of movie
shoots, advertisements and travel
shows. Thus, Silverton is known as
the "Hollywood of the Outback".
Within the Silverton area there are
some incredible landscapes and none
quite as breathtaking as the
Mundi-Mundi Plains. You'll see all
this and more during your Silverton
tour.

Day 6:
Silverton
Heading off for a morning tour to
Silverton and the spectacular

Like Alice have been filmed here.

wonderful things, including wildlife
like big
red kangaroos and emus etc. We enjoy
lunch in a nice spot, then continue

countryside to the White Cliffs Opal
Field. Dinner and accommodation will

a unique experience!
