This superb small group safari-style camping tour visits a wide range of environments at the ideal times of day for a true appreciation of Kakadu National Park. With special permission of the traditional custodians, we have been granted exclusive overnight access to the Aboriginal land of Hawk Dreaming in which we have built an exclusive safari camp. This area abounds with many examples of ancient rock art and occupation sites with no fences or crowds. With the guidance and permission of the Aboriginal owners of Hawk Dreaming, our Guides will introduce you to this special place. The camp features twin bedded tents with standard size beds, ceiling fans, lighting, sheets, blankets, pillows and clean modern ablution facilities. Hearty meals are prepared and served by our on site staff in a truly unique and safe bush setting where you’ll be captivated by the simply stunning sunsets. With a maximum group size of only 16 people, you’ll receive truly personalised service. We use deluxe air-conditioned 4WD vehicles with forward facing seating for your comfort.

Day 1: Hawk Dreaming
Depart Darwin and travel to Kakadu National Park. En route, we will take a break at the Bark Hut Inn, an interesting outback pub. We'll visit the Bowali Visitor Centre – Kakadu National Park Headquarters, where the displays will introduce you to the many different ecosystems that make up this World Heritage National Park. Afterwards we visit Ubirr Rock, where your guide will interpret some of the meanings behind the ancient Aboriginal rock art found through the galleries. A short climb will take you to a lookout with panoramic views over the surrounding landscape and the lands of Hawk Dreaming. From here travel to Hawk Dreaming for lunch, and settle in to our exclusive camp before spending the afternoon in the Hawk Dreaming area. We'll explore the land of the Bunitj people. Here intimate rock art sites can be explored without fences or crowds, with time to soak up the spiritual atmospher of the area. Sit and learn in outdoor "classrooms" just like the Aboriginals have done for thousands of year, and after enjoying the sunset from a nearby vantage point, return to our exclusive camp.

Bushwalk through the shady monsoon forest and climb over boulders through the impressive gorge to reach the plunge pool for a well earned, refreshing swim and time to take in the majestic beauty of the gorge. Access to Jim Jim Gorge is by a 900 metre walk over rocks. Enjoy a well deserved picnic lunch out in the bush. Return to Hawk Dreaming Camp in the evening and overnight at our exclusive safari camp.

Day 3: Yellow Water Wetlands
In the early morning light bid goodbye to Hawk Dreaming and head south to Cooinda, home of the Yellow Water Wetlands Cruise. Here you have the opportunity to spot for crocodiles, birds and other wildlife. We then travel to Barramundi Gorge (Maguk) where a short walk through a paperbark forest will bring you to the base of this picturesque waterfall. We’ll have lunch here before beginning the journey back to Darwin along the Old Jim Jim Road, an historic 4WD track. We drive through the South Alligator River along this track before rejoining the Arnhem and Stuart Highways. You will be returned to your Darwin accommodation in the late afternoon.
