If
there were one
state to
epitomise the
Australian love
for the
accessible
countryside, and
some of the
finer things of
life, it would
be Victoria.
There is little
desert, but this
southern region
is chock full of
scenery,
eclectic
communities and
a bewildering
number of
gracious walks,
parks and
coastal routes.
Melbourne
is a gracious
city; broad
avenues, large
parks and
accessible
seaside suburbs
temper the pace
of life in a
city of over
three million
inhabitants. Its
growth is
astonishing,
keep away for a
couple of years
and the city
will grow up
around you.
Renovated
docklands,
striking new
buildings and an
organic road
system seem to
expand
overnight. But
despite this
rapid
development, the
inherently
gentle nature of
Melbourne shines
through. There
are many icons
of this city,
but the Arts
Centre, the
cricket ground
and the unique
tramcar
restaurant shine
through.
From
the centre of
Melbourne you
are only a hop,
skip and jump
from the
Dandenongs, the
Yarra Valley,
the Great Ocean
Road and endless
pristine parks.
You will be
spoilt for
choice.
Drive,
explore with a
small group
tour, head out
for a hiking
tour, but be
sure to spend
time here, and
enjoy the myriad
of natural
wonders of
Victoria.
